About Shape Switch
Switching shape at the right moment is all that stands between you and the obstacle, and the window is narrower than it first appears. Each barrier only lets one shape through, so a tap changes what you currently are and the timing has to land before contact rather than at it. Since the game is endless, the speed climbs until the switching window closes to almost nothing. Reading two obstacles ahead is what separates a long run from a short one, because reacting to the one in front is already too late at speed.

Why do I fail obstacles I switched for in time?
The switch has to complete before contact, not at the moment of it, and at higher speeds those are different instants. Reacting to the obstacle in front of you works early on and stops working entirely once the pace increases.
