The run ends the moment any single fruit crosses the fill line at the top, regardless of how much room is left elsewhere — one tall stack poking above the line is enough to end things even if the rest of the container is empty.

Chaining small merges early keeps the pile low and buys more time, but holding a couple of mid-size fruits until several line up for a bigger merge usually clears more space at once than forcing every small match the instant it appears.
