Every tube here can only accept a yarn ball if the top ball already in that tube matches the color you're moving, or if the tube is empty — which is the one rule that actually determines whether a level is solvable or not. Tapping a tube picks up every same-colored ball stacked continuously at its top, not just one, so a tube with three matching balls on top moves as a group when you tap the tube it's headed to. The early levels are forgiving about spare empty tubes to stage moves in, but later ones give you exactly enough tubes to solve the puzzle and no room for a wrong guess, which is where actually planning two or three moves ahead starts to matter.

Why won't my ball drop into a tube that has space left?
Having empty room in a tube isn't enough — the top ball already sitting in that tube has to match the color you're moving, or the tube has to be completely empty. A half-full tube of the wrong color rejects the move no matter how much space is left in it.
Does tapping a tube move just the top ball or the whole stack?
