About Repel The Monster

Portals keep opening in Repel the Monster, and until you destroy them the slimes and spectres pouring out simply keep coming. That reframes every level: killing monsters earns points and drops, but the actual win condition is reaching the portals through them. Weapons and ammunition fall from defeated enemies, so a level's difficulty curve depends heavily on what you managed to pick up in its opening thirty seconds. Movement and fire are on separate hands, which means you can back away while shooting — and backing away is usually the correct answer when a portal has just spat out a crowd.

Repel The Monster FAQ

Do you have to kill every monster in Repel the Monster?

No. Enemies respawn from the portals indefinitely, so the level only ends when every portal is destroyed. Fighting the crowd is a means of reaching them, not the objective itself.

How do you play Repel The Monster?

Move with WASD or the arrow keys and hold the left mouse button to fire continuously. Destroy the summoning portals to stop the flow of enemies — clearing monsters alone will not end a level. Collect the weapons and ammunition dropped by defeated monsters to upgrade your firepower. Keep moving while shooting; standing still lets a crowd surround you.

Is Repel The Monster free to play?

Yes. Repel The Monster is free to play in your browser on BreakArcade. There is no purchase, no subscription and no account required - open the page and press Play.

Do I need to download Repel The Monster?

No. Repel The Monster is an HTML5 game that runs inside your browser tab. Nothing is installed on your device, and closing the tab ends the session.

Can I play Repel The Monster on a school Chromebook?

Repel The Monster runs on any device with a modern browser, including low-powered school Chromebooks, because it loads in the browser rather than installing. Whether it opens depends on your network - some schools block the game host, which is outside our control.
