Balloon Escape hands you exactly one control — hold the mouse button and the balloon rises, let go and it falls — and builds an entire obstacle course out of how little that gives you to work with. Spikes, narrow gaps, and moving barriers all have to be threaded using nothing but the timing of when you press and release, which turns the game into more of a rhythm exercise than a platformer once you're a minute in. There's no separate jump or dash to bail you out of a bad approach, so a mistimed hold usually means committing to a collision two seconds before it happens rather than reacting to it in the moment. Mobile trades the button for a drag anywhere on screen, which is actually the more precise of the two.

Why does letting go of the mouse button not lower the balloon right away?
The balloon has real weight behind its movement, so release and fall are not instant — you have to let go slightly before you actually need the balloon lower, which is the timing adjustment that trips up most first attempts.
Is the mobile drag control actually different from holding the desktop button?
Yes — dragging anywhere on the touchscreen gives finer control over exactly how high the balloon climbs than a simple hold-and-release does, which is why several tight gaps are noticeably easier to clear on a touchscreen.
