Everything interesting happens at level-up, when you pick a new skill or upgrade from the options offered, and those choices compound into builds that either hold up against the later crowds or do not. Picking upgrades that pair with what you already have beats grabbing whatever sounds strongest in isolation. Runs end eventually by design, and the question is how far the build carried you.
