Cogs slot into a pegboard, and how you arrange them decides whether the wooden target towers on the far side survive the next wave. You drop coloured gears onto the studded board, link them into chains that carry energy along, and mount turrets on the ones that feed your firing line. Because the board is a fixed grid, a strong set of upgrades placed in the wrong spot is worth very little — the shape of the chain matters as much as the parts in it. Between waves you spend rewards on stronger units and reposition what you already own, and every new stage rewards a different arrangement.

Placement matters a great deal. The gears have to mesh into a connected chain on the pegboard for energy to reach your turrets, so an expensive upgrade dropped into a dead corner of the board contributes nothing.
