About Drift Car Driving

Most drift games give you accelerate-and-steer and call it done. Drift Car Driving splits movement across all four WASD keys instead: W or up moves the car forward, S or down pulls it back, and A/D swing it left or right independent of which way it's currently facing. That's a more literal set of controls than most drift games bother with, and it means correcting an oversteer is a manual key adjustment rather than a single brake tap. The drift itself comes from carrying speed into a turn and easing off to let the back end slide before straightening out, and because direction and momentum are separate inputs here, overcorrecting a slide is exactly as easy as causing one in the first place. Mouse clicks handle menus and button prompts outside the actual driving, so the four-key layout is reserved entirely for the car once a run starts.

Drift Car Driving FAQ

Why does my car keep spinning out completely instead of drifting smoothly through the turn?

That usually means you're holding the turn direction too long after the slide starts — since steering and speed are separate inputs here, the car keeps rotating past the drift angle you wanted unless you counter-steer with the opposite key partway through. Tapping the opposite direction briefly, rather than releasing the turn key entirely, is what actually catches it.

Do the arrow keys and WASD do different things, or are they just alternate versions of each other?

They're mapped identically — W matches the up arrow, S matches down, and so on — so the choice is purely about hand comfort rather than one set giving finer control. Mixing them mid-run works fine since the game reads whichever key you press without needing you to commit to one scheme.

How do you play Drift Car Driving?

Press W or the up arrow to accelerate forward, S or down to reverse. Use A and D, or the left and right arrows, to steer independent of your current speed. Carry speed into a turn and ease off to let the back end slide into a drift. Counter-steer with the opposite direction key partway through to catch the slide before it spins you out. Click on-screen buttons with the mouse for menus — WASD is only active during the actual drive.
